Why should you be photographed with your pet?
Lately, I have done a lot of thinking, trying to define what future I want for myself and my brand.
Since a teenager, I have loved photographing people and have always been drawn to animals, so this made sense to specialise in these areas.
But for the last few years, I have had great success with my pets pop-ups around Greater London. I would come to pet stores and set up for a day, photographing mostly dogs every 15 minutes. Although this is a great way to reach a large clientele, those sessions are short. I have to be quick and efficient and there isn’t much time to talk and connect with the animal or their owners.
I love human contact and needed to do something more creative. So I have offered this new session, for women with their dogs. I am looking to reach a clientele who is looking for meaningful portraits of them with their dogs, showing all the love they have for their furry children. Because I genuinely think your dog is just like your child, you love and care for them just as a family member.
I truly feel that this is my mission in the world to photograph families, that includes their pets. If only I could bottle up this feeling I have when I am on a shoot, it’s the most precious thing; happiness radiates through me. This makes me realise that I am in the right place, I am going in the right direction. I want to serve more families.
If you are someone that has never had professional photos done, don’t worry! When I photograph, I direct my models, I enjoy communicating with them and touching them to help them to get in the right pose. I know how to adjust myself to the client in front of me; if you are the quiet type, I will talk slowly in a lower voice. If it’s a family, I make silly impressions that make kids (and adults) laugh genuinely. For dogs, I have a secret noise that makes them raise their ears in surprise. And snap! It’s in the box!
We stay in motion to avoid any rigidity. I have designed a shoot list that I go through, which help me get about 40-50 final images for my clients to choose from in their gallery. But most of my clients love all their images and usually upgrade to the full gallery.
Pretty photos are not only for Instagram models and influencers. Everyone deserves to have their portrait taken. Even you and your pooch. And be proud of your family, print your photos to display in your home, not just on your screen saver.
