My 3 values as a professional family photographer

As I was pounding through self-help books and podcasts, I came across an episode that stopped me and made me think.

What are your values personally and professionally? What do you want to bring to this world? What do you want to leave behind? Is your current life aligned with your values?

I have explored this idea and dug deep to find my values at a personal and professional level. I think this exercise is wonderful to show your client who you are, what is your brand about, and see if you are a good fit. My business, being an extension of myself, had a few common values.

  • Community

Being part of a community is very important to me. It makes me feel accepted and safe as we can rely on other people and ask for help from our neighbors or friends. That can be from looking after each other’s pet, getting advice on the best cafe in the local area, or borrowing a tool. It brings a sense of sharing without money being exchanged. Collaborating with other people brings me creativity and inspiration and makes me grow as an individual.

As a photographer, I want to encourage local families to take the first step to get their families photographed: It’s never too late to start. It doesn’t matter if it’s from pregnancy or once your children are already 4 years old, or teenagers.

A new habit or ritual can always be created, you just need to make the first step.

Being part of a community means that I will support my people, fellow photographers, and clients, follow them on Instagram and cheer them on their new adventures. I will share my stories, my wins, my defeats, and help, listen, and support the one who needs it.

  • Personal Growth

Personal development is important to me. I like to set myself achievable goals that allow me to get out of my comfort zone and learn new skills. That being on a personal or professional level: I am taking 1 step at a time to be the best version of myself. I want to share what I know with my people. Me not being a parent yet; I want to learn, gather my client’s knowledge about being a parent, and share it with my community. I want my platform to be a conversation starter, where we can share our vulnerabilities.

  • Authenticity

I want to show a world of genuine love, deep connection, and vulnerability. This starts with myself, and not being scared to show who I truly am. I often worried that people would not love me, or accept me for who I am, but I am learning every day to let go of this idea.

I have read once: “It is better to be hated for who you are than loved for who you are not.” This is so true. I believe that my crowd, my people, will find me and stay by my side. By opening up and showing my vulnerabilities I will attract like-minded people who will let me photograph their world, in the most intimate way.

I hope you enjoyed getting to know me and my brand a bit better. I am curious to learn about you and your values, so don’t be shy, drop me an email on the link below!
