Tender Newborn Bath Session In Margate: A Winter Story

A Quiet Morning of Connection and Light

A Newborn Bath Session in Margate

Winter slows everything down. The light is softer, the world quieter, and as the season shifts, so does my approach to photography. This newborn bath session with Poppy and Kit was a reminder of what I love most—the unhurried, the intimate, the deeply personal moments that unfold naturally. Poppy shared with me, “I want a moment just for me and my second son. Somehow, we don’t have any photos together yet—just the two of us. This time, I want it to be ours alone.”

For a while, I had stepped away from indoor sessions, disheartened by past experiences that didn’t quite align with my vision. But something about this season called me back. A friend’s words stayed with me: Set your camera to black and white. Let the connection, details, and the light guide you.

So I did. And it was extraordinary.

A Morning of Stillness and Love

Poppy and Kit welcomed me into their world without pretence. We began in the bedroom, where the soft east light wrapped around them, highlighting the quiet intimacy of their bond. The stillness of the morning, the warmth of the bed, the gentle rhythm of their movements—it was the perfect start.

As the light shifted, we moved to the bathroom, waiting for the moment when it hit just right. The warmth of the water embraced them both, the winter sun filtering through the window. We talked about parenthood—the exhaustion, the beauty, the quiet transformations that come with it. There was no rush, no pressure. Just stillness, closeness, and love.

I captured only half of what I typically would, yet each frame felt intentional. The simplicity of black and white removed any distractions, focusing solely on what truly mattered—the tenderness of Kit’s newborn skin, the quiet devotion with which Poppy held him, the soft light brushing his tiny bum, the way he threw his little fist in the air. Editing flowed seamlessly. Within two days, the film and photos were done, untouched by doubt, driven purely by instinct.

Embracing a Slower Approach

This session reminded me that winter is not just a time of stillness—it’s a time of transformation. The slower pace allows for reflection, for rediscovering forgotten dreams, for embracing a quieter approach. Less perfection, more tenderness. Less posing, more presence.

If you’ve ever considered capturing the early days of parenthood in a way that feels true, raw, and deeply connected, I’d love to create something just as meaningful for you.
