I recently had the joy of creating creative branding portraits for my client, Sikha Mathew, who is in the middle of a really exciting life change. She’s a doctor by training, but is now stepping into a whole new chapter as a life coach with her company Kaizen Transformations. Sikha wanted portraits and video clips to use for her new website, and we decided to do the session at one of her favourite spots on Kingsgate Bay. The beach was super quiet, perfect when you need time to feel comfy in front of the camera. The whole session felt easy, playful, and full of deep chats and laughter. This is exactly why I love offering creative branding portraits – they allow people to show who they are in a setting that feels authentic to them. Forget about the boring headshots; my portrait sessions are fun and allow you to show your true personality.
She also treated herself to one of my Signature Photo Boxes to mark this new chapter. I loved that. It wasn’t just about getting the photos for her business – it was about celebrating herself and this big shift in her life.
The best part? At the end of the session, we threw the “rules” out the window, climbed past a broken fence at the top of the cliff (don’t worry, we were careful!), and caught the last bit of golden light. Those artistic shots up there ended up being some of my favourites. I shot a few with my signature slow shutter drag style, and those frames looked dreamy!
I left the beach that day with sandy shoes, a memory card full of magic, and such a big smile. Sessions like this remind me why I love what I do – getting to know people’s stories and being able to capture them in these transitional moments of their lives. Offering creative branding portraits gives me the chance to reflect not just what someone looks like, but the story of where they’re going.
